Electric Loco Training Centre was established in 1959. ELTC, Asansol is the first Electric Locomotive Training Centre in Indian Railway.

Name of the first  Head of the Institution (as Principal) was Sri R S Anand. The initial capacity was for 72 Trainees and now the capacity is 300.

The institute was located initially  in front of Electric Loco Shed, Asansol. Later it was shifted to current location in 1991.  

Three Phase Loco simulator running since 2006 and it is the first ever Three phase Loco simulator of Indian Railways.
