The Electrical Training Centre , one of the premier institutions of Indian Railways is located at Asansol, the second largest and most populated city in West Bengal. It was earlier named as Electric Loco Training Centre and later the name was changed to Electrical Training Centre. The Institute is 1.7 km from Asansol Railway Station.
Electric Loco Training Centre was established in 1959. ELTC, Asansol is the first Electric Locomotive Training Centre in Indian Railway. The name of the first Head of the Institution (as Principal) was Sri R S Anand. The initial capacity was for 72 trainees and now the capacity is 300. The Electrical Training Centre is equipped with various features and provides various facilities to trainees. One of this enriched feature is the Three Phase Loco simulator, running since 2006 and it is the first ever Three phase Loco simulator of Indian Railways. This simulator is capable of running in 3 shifts and ensures safe train operation by increasing the overall productivity of running staff. The institution offers training of 15 various courses. The strength of each classroom is 30.The other facilities provided by ETC are as follows:
- One WAG–7 Loco Training Model car .
- One EMU Training Model Car.
- Two smart class room.
- Two hostels available for the trainees with a capacity of 280 beds.
- One room attached with bathrooms of 12 beds is kept especially for ladies trainees.
- One Computer Room.
- One Meeting Room.
- One GYMNASIUM Room at ETC Hostel.
- Yoga training facility.
- Veg , Non-Veg kitchen & dining table are available.
- Hindi, Bengali & English news paper are available at Hostel.
- Sports items (Volley ball, Badminton, Table Tennis etc) are available.
